I don't mind loaning out books. I have quite a few James Patterson books if anyone wants to borrow them.

And I try not to wear lipstick while I read them.

Albertmorris, try this one for your book club...."Same Kind of Different As Me."  I guarantee it's thought-provoking.  You read it, and let me know what you think.  It will only take you a few hours.

I second this suggestion.

Albert,

I noticed that sign the first time I read the book.  Wonder when he switched from Albert Junior ( I guess his dad was still a politico then ) to Al with no Jr. ??

Is that pic of the mom with the daughter who went to nursing school at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville ??

But....I don't like to buy books from Half Price...weird....I don't mind borrowing books from friends, but I don't like to buy a book that somebody else has thumbed.  Call me crazy.  I'll just buy them...I put them into my budget.

So what about borrowing books from the library then??

I never borrow popular reading books from the library (except the library where I worked) and then I was either the first person to get it, or just a few others had it before me.

I think the reason Half Price bugs me is because they have so many paperbacks and they are kind of beat up, and I can't stand it when I see a page that has lipstick or a finger smudge on it.  ICK.

I can understand the problem with used books if they are keepers. If I am reading Patterson, Connelly, Turow, and the like, I use the library or Half-Price, as I'd go broke. I read 4-6 books per week depending on the authors and could never afford it.

I do like the aversion to lipstick and finger smudges.

I have an Emily Post dinner party book from Half Price Books, inscribed, and with the birthday card still inside. Guess guys on Oak Lawn don't like being told how to do dinner parties from the likes of Ms. Post!

:hula:

Tennisgal,  Thanks for the suggestion on Same Kind of Different....will check it out at the library next week.

BBS,  You noticed the Al Gore Jr. thing also. You are probably right about why he switched....or maybe he figured there were some folks who wouldn't know the difference and think he was his father.:who:

You were right about the people in the picture.....you never cease to amaze me with your memory.

Tennisgal,  I totally agree with books making one feel comfortable in a home. Walking into a house and seeing bookshelves lined with books, I know we are going to get along just fine.:flower:

How about piles of books on the floor? You should see my office. I have about 30 books stacked up to read. I just have to get in the mood again. When I do, I read 2 or 3 a week.

I generally take my bags of books to a local Assisted Living center. They are much appreciated, there...

I like the idea of taking them to an assisted living center.....may even check them out for future usage.....:who:

Just finished a great book, Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson.....if you buy it on-line, some of the money goes to building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

There might be some PD in my background; I haven't investigated enough to know.

But I stole I mean borrowed the phrase from a classic episode ( yeah, with me that's redundant  ) of "The Dick Van Dyke Show," the one where I first heard the word "verisimilitude."  Lavender lollipops, anyone ??
