Reading an old Archer novel right now called The Fourth Estate.... pretty intriguing WWII time frame storyline.. to the present..following a couple of main characters... a style I rather like.. started in the present with a situation, and flashed back to show the intertwining events that brought these two lives to the dilemna they face in the present...

Have not read John Sanford, but will give him a shot next time in the library. The Archer book sounds good.

There are many books in the Sanford 'Prey' series. It doesn't really matter where you start in this series, as he does a great job of catching you up before you are 1/4 of the way through. Many recurring characters to get to know. It's one of the very best.
If you can find Winter Prey or Mind Prey, those are two of the best....

Thanks. I do like recurring characters. Had Fargo on this afternoon, and I do love those accents....

Did some work in the Twin Cities a couple of years after the movie came out. Folks up there were a bit testy about the accent...."we do NOT sound like that!"  Oh my.:pat:

Found a J. Kellerman book last week I had not read....not bad. It was not the Alex Delaware series....Petra Conner was the main character.

One of the few Kellerman's that I did not care for was one they did together.....don't know if they were doing alternating sentences or what, but it did not flow.

I read The Red Badge of Courage over the weekend. If you like Civil War books, this is a good one. Bruce Catton is another good Civil War guy.

I'm reading a Ted Dekker book called "Black".  It was given to me as a hand-me-down from one sister.  She hated it.  I'm nearly finished and it's kept my attention thru it all!  It's the first of a series.  I noticed they sell it at Mardel (Christian store) too.

It's about a young man that has dreams that are so real that he can't tell which is the reality...his dreams or his real life.   His dreams tell him about a virus that will mutate into a virus that kills millions of people....then he has to convince the people in the other life of what he's dreamt and how real of a threat it is.  He's able to go back and forth between realities and use information from one as a guide in the other.  Very sci-fi.  Lots of references to a single "God" and creator in the "dream". Pretty insightful and foretelling stuff!

Sounds like one my wife would like also....may be a Christmas present in there somewhere.....thanks.

Just finished John Adams, by David McCullouch and really enjoyed it. With the build-up to the election next year, things really have not changed that much in American politics.

We have this image of statesmen sitting around large table sipping brandy discussing the needs and direction of the country.  It just is not true. Having read biographies of Linclon, FDR, and now Adams in the past few weeks, the shenanigans pulled by those running for office was the same then as now.

I just read Next by Michael Crichton.....not bad at all.....current for today's times.....

That is interesting. I have always thought that things were different "back then". Politics must be like genetics. There is not much you can do about it.

The one thing that made things 'different' back then.. and it's significant.. is media coverage of politics.. then vs. now.
If we had the media coverage then that we have today, FDR would never have even served TWO terms, IMO.....

You are right about the media coverage in that the timing is so different today. What they discuss isn't, but the amount of time for the event to occur till we know about it sure is.

And you are probably right about FDR.
