I went on line to AT&T, we have our service with them right now, and started looking at them. Lots of choices to make. I saw a refurbished one for pretty good money but what do you get for the 8G or the 16 G. we are not into watching movies from them or doing much video. She doesn't even really know why she wants one but all the women she works with have them so she wants one. So what is the difference between the 8G and the 16G for a mild user. she wants more of the aps than media use.
I would like to have one for all the down loads I can carry on it.
I know it costs $30 extra a month for the Media hook up, Internet etc. and I looked at the monthly plans, so I am ok there, I guess I just need to know the difference between phones. Refurb 8G is $49 and Refub 16G is $100. Not too much difference but enough to check.
So what is your recommendation?

8G has 8 Gigs of memory, and the 16G has 16 Gigs. I've had my 8G for a couple of years, and haven't come close to maxing out the memory. That being said, for $51, the 16G may be worth it.

an 8gig will hold about 2500 average mp3 songs, or 10-15 full length mpeg4 movies.

Unless you want a whole bunch of music, pictures or videos the 8G will be fine.......I have 500+ songs, 100+ Apps and 200+ pictures and my 8G is not full (it's close).

8G is probably enough.
I highly suggest going to the Apple Store and buying it. The service is phenomenal and you'll walk out with it working corretly.

You never know what they'll have on hand. You'd probably do just as well going to ATT. I'd bet there are several ATT stores in Ellis county. You can go to the ATT site, and check. The only way to be sure a refurb is available though, is to buy it online.

Make sure you read the print on the Data plan. I do not believe you can cancel the $30.00 plan even if you dont want those features.

I doubt they have the refurbished iPhone at the Apple Stores. Unless you buy a refurbish from a very reputable dealer then I would think you're just asking for trouble. I am just amazed at the customer service of an Apple Store and I would pay a little extra if I had too.

It's more than "a little" extra. I've had several different refurb phones in the past, including a TREO. Never had a problem with them.

I logged on to my AT&T and I do see the refurbs.. I wouldnt want to buy a refurbished one when the others are around $99.00 or less. (just what I'm seeing on my site)
Also check with walmart, they will upgrade phone too sometimes cheaper than online.. sometimes.

Yes, you have got to have the $30 data plan with the iPhone. That covers all your texting and internet. I'm getting one in just a few days, and I called AT&T today, and dropped one $10 charge that I don't know why I had, plus I lowered my calling plan by $20 because I don't need the number of minutes that I had since I don't talk on the phone that much (I usually text).
I'm pretty excited! I'll get the 8G and won't increase my monthly payment at all. Yea.

I don't think the $30 covers the text, only the internet. We're on a family plan with 4 lines and the messaging plan for all 4 is $30 per month extra. I think unlimited texting for a single line is $10.
But yes, the 8 g should be plenty. The iphone is my favorite gadget, she'll love it.
Oops, edited to say I would get 16G, I've had mine about 6 months now and I've only used 5 gigs of the 16. But you never know what may come out that you want that requires more space, and with a 2 year contract.....well......
I think the MAIN difference between the 3GS (which is the newest one) and the 3G is video capbility, but I may be wrong. The 3GS only comes in 16G and 32G models. The 3G comes in 8G and 16G models.

Rusty is right. The $30 data plan does not include texting. That is extra. I love my iphone.

TG, that extra $10 charge might have been your unlimited texting.
