CHECK IS IN THE MAIL . . . BUT TO THE WRONG STATE
DALLAS (Dallas Morning News) – Some Collin County residents were in for a surprise this past week when they received their property tax statements.
About 2,500 of those statements included return envelopes addressed to the Doña Ana County treasurer in southeastern New Mexico.
The Houston printing company that both Collin County and Doña Ana County use shipped the wrong return envelopes to some property owners.
"It's just a human error," said Kenneth Maun, Collin County's tax assessor and collector. Maun said his staff rushed to get the printing company to send new return envelopes, which were set to arrive by yesterday.
Jill Johnson, Doña Ana County's chief deputy treasurer, said she had received only about ten Collin County checks so far. She said she is collecting them and will send them to Collin County officials in one batch.
