I'm undecided if I'll buy any candy for the 4-5 Hispanic children who show up at my door every year. Last year I bought a two bags of candy---Snickers, Nestle's Crunch and had 5 kids show up at my door. After I turned out the light, I knew I was in trouble and decided to load it up and brought to work. I don't need the extra sugar.
I know going door to door has become something passe and dangerous these days, but do you guys still turn on the porch light on October 31st?

I would love to but we're the last house on a dead end and no one comes down here. The only time we really had trick-or-treaters was when the neighbor kids were younger.

Money is not a bad idea. Had a neighbor when I was a child that did that.
If someone gives my kids bells, I will personally deliver the flaming bag of poo...

If you want to see a big turn out check the Swiss Ave, Munger Place and Junius Heights numbers. You are talking in the 1000s

I live in the TCU neighborhood. Not as wealthy as Swiss Ave, et al, but we do have nice yards and houses.

My HOA does not allow it, so I won't be buying any candy.

We will. Husband insists we purchase candy we like (=chocolate) so we can eat the leftovers.
We have about 20 kids in the neighborhood and then the carloads of imported kids arrive. After we give out the amount we have purchased, out goes the light and we hid out upstairs.
When the "carnival" store was close to us, I purchased rings and witch fingers to give with the candy. My husband was furious...........The next year, a kid showed up and asked if I had the witch fingers again. I rubbed his nose in that. I know kids like that carp, but along with candy.

It is the "Imported Kids" that irks me, I think I have some butterfingers left over from last year for them. Last edited on Mon Oct 25th, 2010 10:57 pm by Red Oak II

I can't believe they are that strict, and party killers. I would NEVER live in an HOA neighborhood. NEVER.
But I have not had any kids for over 5 yrs. WHen you live out as far as I do, the kids would have to come by on 4 wheelers just to get here.
I don't buy candy or turn on the light, ( you can't see it from the road any way) Just not going to get any kids. OH well.

There is only one house in my HOA and we don't want to buy any candy for a kid who would crawl over the gate and come up here.

Texie, come to my neighborhood if you want to see Trick-or-Treaters! UGH! I have turned off the lights and left the house the last 2 yrs. It is a nightmare.
However, because of new city regulations, Elizabeth Blvd. can't be shut down this year for the kids, so I don't know if we'll have as many or not...probably so, since I'm on an outlying street.
I'm planning on going to a bar with friends to watch the World Series!

We have lots of trick-or-treaters and I give them a lot, as the kids have a long haul in our spread-out community.
We're having a neighborhood Halloween party this year on Saturday and Monday is an in-service school holiday. The kiddoes will have a great weekend this year!

besides... who would want to trudge through all that snow???
I normally give out candy - "imports" or not - love to see the kiddos all dressed up! Most of the time their parents are with them.
This year, I'll be at the Stars! game!
