Up till last night I thought the Cowboys were a relatively talented bunch that manages to underachieve. Now I think they have little real ability and still manage to underachieve.
The successes of the recent past were probably a case of everything going right that could go right. But time marches on and feet get slower. The game is not nearly so forgiving of these veterans any more.
Kyle Kosier is hurt more often than my 83-year-old aunt.
From stem to stern, the comment I keep hearing behind the scenes is how dumb some of these players are. There is a serious lack of football smarts on this team.
If you're wondering what's happened to Choice, evidently he's wearing out his welcome in practice - telling anyone who wants to hear how he should be starting. Problem is, he's just not that good - which doesn't say anything good about the two guys in front of him.
I can promise you the league will look at a tape of the officiating tonight. It played little into the outcome of the game, but there were some horrific missed calls out there. That crew will get broken up.
When the biggest hit is delivered by a wide reciever on specials teams, you have problems.
Jay Ratliff is having a bad year. People have finally figured him out, and he doesn't have the bulk to effectively respond.
Igor Olshansky needs to stop the imbecilic post-tackle histrionics and play football. Even in a Phillips scheme his derth of playmaking is inexcusable.
The secondary has been exposed. Jenkins may have been a flash, or maybe he read his clippings and started to believe them.
As much as I like Brooking, he's clearly getting beat. Same for James. It's not always your fault, especially when your protection is shoved four yards off the ball and into your lanes. But they are making tackles 8 and 9 yards downfield, not at the line.
Norm Hitzges said it best. The team didn't quit after Romo's injury. They quit after the Giants punched them in the mouth on consecutive drives. Tacklers wanted nothing to do with Bradshaw or Jacobs.
Up until last night I thought Phillips' job was safe through the season. I no longer believe that. Jerry can rationalize anything he wants publicly, but he knows. He saw what everyone saw. The Cowboys were lucky to get as close as they did.

I have to admit that Phillips' approach, which is the same one his father used in Houston, doesnt' work.
Bum took that approach with a bunch of overachievers and twice took them to conference championships. It doesn't work with today's player. I suspect the most strenuous thing these Cowboys do is haul their paycheck to the bank.

People on FB were complaining about the Cowboys this summer during the exhibition season. I told 'em "not to worry. They'll know when to turn it on."
I was wrong. Fans, media, team alike mostly believed this team was too talented not to win. But Jody is correct. There's some major problems here and a lot of older, slower feet out there. There are also some unmotivated guys.
The OL, LB & secondary need massive changes.
Jerry needs to do some soul searching about his management structure. What has been done is not working now. He needs to hire a coach and give that coach the ability to hire/fire his own staff.
I thought Jason Garrett was a fool not to have taken the head coaching jobs in Baltimore or Atlanta three years ago. You can't assume those job openings will always be there. Now, he's probably going to be back to being a QB coach instead of a coordinator.

The best job Jerry has done so far is proving that it WAS Jimmy who was responsible for those Super Bowls.

Nothing turns me off more on a player in any sport than when I see a video/audio clip of them when they start running their mouth about how good they are or not getting to play enough.
I continue to yell at the TV/Radio for them to shut up and show us how good they are. Showing how good they are in practice or on the field will get them further than running their mouth.

I know this never happens, but Wade should announce that he realizes the team has no confidence in his leadership and is stepping down.
Then Jerry can put on the Bike coaches shorts and the whistle and just get it out of his system.

I noticed last night when Jerrah was being interviewed and he was asked about mid-season termination of Wade's contract he said "I don't want to speculate about Wade's decision to retire..."
I expect to hear about Wade's "decision to retire" fairly soon.

Maybe they need a team motto. Oakland has one. "Commitment to Excellence". They beat Denver pretty bad over the weekend.
Let's give the Cowboys a motto. Here's my suggestion: "Dallas Cowboys: The 2nd BYE Week For The Rest of the NFL."
Anybody else got an idea?

Watching the game, I remembered a quote from many years ago. I think it was Lou Holtz when he was coaching the Jets and was asked about the execution of his offense. He answered, "Right now it sounds like a damn good idea."

Hopefully Jerry won't use Romo going down as an excuse to keep Phillips and Garrett around for another season.

At this point Wade has to know that he is a dead duck. That's not likely to translate into enthusiastic coaching.
It doesn't help that whenever Wade walks into the room, the players see Jerry over his shoulder. Whether he is actually there or not.
