Jody, I read somewhere (I think it was yahoo! sports) that just disturbed me.  The writer said that Cliff Lee was DEFINITELY going to be a Yankee next year because he and CC Sabbathia were good buddies and their wives have been house hunting for the Lees.

The Rangers, I hope, have exactly what Lee needs (or wants) at this point in his career.  I can't think of anything better than working in Texas and commuting to Arkansas.

I'm trying to remember. Has Lee won a postseason game in Arlington? Game One in Tampa Bay, Game 5 in Tampa Bay and Game 3 in NY.

I wonder how much his so-so record at home will influence his decision.

Lee has experienced the unconditional love of the fans at the Ballpark, as well as the impatient, unforgiving fans at Yankee Stadium.

Wonder if that might figure into his decision.

I read that the house hunting happened when Lee was expecting to be traded to the Yankees, before his surprise trade to the Rangers.

What are the state and local income taxes up in NYC?

$25 mil up there might just only be $18-20 mil down here....

Just a thought....

Didn't El Rushbo permanently move his studio operations from NYC to Florida because of the increasing tax burden on 'rich folks?'

:who:

Cl is correct, the "house hunting" happened when they thought he was going to be a Yankee, before the Rangers stepped up in the trade.

Good point.....25 million just doesn't go as far as it used to in NYC...LOL!!!

That is something that I would consider if I were him.  Another thing that I think he will consider also is that the Yankees, just an incredible team, aren't getting any younger.

Ryan's been making noises that the team might be close to doubling its payroll next year.

That would probably accomodate Lee and a few others, just fine.

I suspect that if he has any real interest in New York - and again, I don't think he will by that point - he may high ball them. He doesn't strike me as the sort who would, but some might want to see exactly what the Yankees might do. Frankly, I think given what Ms. Lee says here, it will cost alot less to keep him here than it would to move him to New York.

Several years ago, I had an offer to move to a much larger market. I told the guy over the first cup of coffee that he couldn't afford me. When he asked why, I told him "Because I like it here."

I think Cliff Lee knows that if money is your only reason, chances are you'll never really like it anywhere.

As for the nybaseballdigest stuff, oh, please. If I thought Lee was headed to New York, I'd say so. The guy is right in many ways, but those other ways don't seem to especially concern Cliff Lee - and he can't see past his pinstripes. Flyover state franchises are afterthoughts. And heaven knows, no realtor has ever fed a rumor. God Bless 'em, but Yankees fans don't view a season as competition. They see it as a coronation. I mean, where else would Lee go? What's Arkansas and Arlington? Are those near the ocean? How gauche.

Well, the man's character seems evident. I think they're in for a bigger shock than the Rangers-in-six.

hadn't heard that...all the articles I have read, and keep in mind that reporter is quoting a relator, are about how his wife loves it hear, has enjoyed having cliff home during the season, which he has NEVER been able to do, very close to their friends and family, etc, etc, etc.

My oldest son only went to school up there in Searcy for two semesters, but he goes back all the time. Just loves it there, and he's as Texas as it gets.

Harding?

My in-laws live in the northeast portion of the state and they love it as well.

Yup. The square hole I tried to shove my round peg son into. That worked well...lol.

The key, IMO, won't be just money.   Lee is going to get a boatload of cash no matter where he signs.

What the Rangers can do is offer Lee a chance to get away to ARK after he pitches a game for a few days.   Charter a jet for him and he's away from the team a couple days.

Friend of mine says Lee is a licensed pilot, and owns his own small plane.

He also has a CHL, for what it's worth.

I remember when Kevin Brown signed with the Dodgers, a record contract for the time, The Dodgers threw in a number of charter flights for him to go home.   Lee may fly a small plane but having a private jet get him home in 55 minutes might be the pot sweetner he would like.   But then again, I have zero idea of what he wants or makes him tick.   Nolan has been through this himself.   If anyone knows what might make the difference, he would.

My guess is that it's Jaxon.
