First of all, how much money Jerry makes has never been a priority for him. It just isn't. Winning is, and he'll go into debt to do it. He's a wildcatter.

Second, Jerry absolutely does not mind sharing the spotlight with the Rangers. His view is that four succesful franchises make this a year-round destination for tourists, fans, and potential customers. Of course he'd like to be lead dog, but he also lives in the land of What Is. And he knows if you stay at something long enough, your time will come around again.

Crazy as it sounds, Jerry taking the reigns is not all that far fetched. I can promise you he was so un-nerved by what he saw the other night that he was probably down in the locker-room getting sized for pads. Ever known a 65-year-old man who really in his heart thought he could still pop leather? I give you Jerry. The reason he won't ever be coach or the Cowboys' version of Rudy is because his various corprate boards and shareholders would have small kittens. The guy has alot of other interests. He'd do it, but no one will let him.

Now, the following is a guess on my part - but I'm comfortable making it. Jerry goes all-in, all the time. I think he's way further into that venue than anyone knows. The object wasn't just building a great stadium. He wanted the world's greatest stadium - to house the passion of his life, long after his life was over. That's why all the African Cherry in the locker-room had to be taken out and replaced - so the grain would all flow vertically. Yes, taxpayers kicked in a huge chunk - but Jerry poured cash into it as well. Alot of that was personal, but plenty of it was leveraged - and my fear is that he's not far from a Hicks situation. Jones lost plenty of money in '08, same as alot of people in his strata. I was with Boone Pickens the morning the guy saw about $1 billion disappear, and Jones played at the same tables. If he can't sell tickets or jerseys, his pile of chips gets smaller - real fast. They kind of joked about that last year, but I don't hear many chuckles now. You can see it in his face.

Jody, we love ya but you are on his payroll and have to say mostly nice things.  If you say something he doesn't like you'll be removed just like Dale, and that's ok since it's his team.  I think most Cowboy fans wish he'd let the "football" people do the football stuff and that he'd stop coaching from the owners box.  His arrogance about "his or mine " team and mostly stadium is getting too much to stomach. imho.

Got that figured out.

Next thing to realize is that Jerry doesn't really care if they win or loose, as long as he keeps pulling in the cash he is pulling in.

I know of four cases where oilmen owned NFL teams. Three were Jerry Jones, Bud Adams (who invented the oilfield to hear him tell it), and John Mecom. They were in it for the money and the publicity. The fourth was Clint Murchison, who managed to do it right.

And about as many cheerleader candidates as he could.

if clint went after cheerleaders he had to get there before tex did...

Even though he asked to name the organizations with 3 titles, wouldn't it be fairer to only look at the years Jones has owned the Cowboys?

Since Jones purchased the Cowboys this is the breakdown of Super Bowl Championships won...

Dallas 3

New England 3

San Francisco 2

New York Giants 2

Denver 2

Pittsburgh 2

Washington

Green Bay

St. Louis

Baltimore

Tampa Bay

Indianapolis

New Orleans

So...only one franchise has won as many titles and none have won more.  Geez...Jones sucks.

BTW...canning Phillips and making Garret interim Head Coach may the the easiest and cleanist way of getting rid of both of them.

"Did you like those three Super Bowls? I hope you did... I hope you did very much."

Those 3 Super Bowls may have been the worst thing that could have happened to this franchise. "Ain't nothin' to this NFL, we got it all figured out."

But since he hasn't been able to do it again for over 16 years, it might just be possible that it was the perfect storm of luck. Those don't come around very often.

Cowboycott?  If you don't like it, then don't buy the tickets, the trademarked product, or watch on TV.  If you already have tickets, don't buy concessions or products.   Send a message.

JJ was a decent GM when he let Jimmie make the decisions.  Now he won't fire himself due to ego.  If one of his company manager's wasn't performing to expectations he'd have no problem making corrections.   Own the team, hire the right people and give them the opportunity and tools to succeed.  A general manager for football operations is obviously needed but JJ is blind.

I don't know how it is where y'all work, but if I did something great at work 15 years ago, that got a mention on my performance evaluation 15 years ago.

But that doesn't mean it gets to be on my evaluation every year after that.

Besides, we're spoiled. This is The Dallas Cowboys, America's Team, The NFL Version Of The New York Yankees. We expect the Cowboys to figure in the Super Bowl equation every year, or at least more often than every 15-16 years.

[Quote Jody - long post]

I agree Jerry wants to win and win big. Jerry buys talent. Jerry doesn't but coaching. His choices of coaches over the past shows how inept his selection process is. Coach cupcake, the defensive genius whose team allowed 500 yds in defense last week, should have gone some time ago. Nothing will change until Jerry hires a good coach and allows him to coach. It's obvious his current coach has no control or leadership when it comes to this team.
