Thanks for liking our Blog Kiamichi. (Spirit and I!!!).
We will be back of course in Southern Texas before you know it! Right now the winds in Valley of the Gods are peaking 40mph+... Desolated and isolated... it feels as being on another Planet. Good or bad... it is!
Be well... Ara & Spirit

A couple mornings ago... you had to be there to feel it!!!

I thought I would post some of the Blog here...

Our present neighborhood, Utah

Misty morning, the sun is still hidden, the red rocks have yet to be painted and take on their red hues, the winds are calm and silence prevails. The birds are still asleep, I am barely awake myself and as in tempo with it’s forward movement I can hear the gushing of the balloon’s propane lighting up in bursts. What a sight it was, what a sight it must be from "up there" when free as a bird one could fly over those Monuments, those "Gods" guarding this Valley for the past centuries.

The surprises never fail to appear at every corner while living on the road, never knowing the next set we will be experiencing while on this single and greatest stage Mother Nature has provided never sparing any expenses from within her own Soul.

More photos of our rides, old one pan recipes I am trying to bring back and incorporated within the Blog, a reply to a comment made, more Balloon photos are still in the camera for now waiting for the next time.

Be well…

Always

Ara & Spirit

I love the pictures. The commentary is a bit new-agey for me but worth it for the pics.

As for me, I'd love to do something like that. In fact, being inspired from this blog, I think I am going to do a Big Bend trip this summer with the kids. They need to see it. I have been before and loved it. I hope they do. Not sure if they will be wild about the long distances.

Hi Michael....

Be careful, Big bend in the summer is VERY hot, even though dry... many locals like it, many take off. Shade is the ket being there when it is that hot...

OK... I am so curious when you call the commentary a bit new-agey. I would love for you to clarify it, never heard of that expression. And you will not hurt feelings if it is on the negative side!

You be well... Ara & Spirit

Big Bend has also developed a very bad smog problem over the last few years during the summer when winds are from the southeast. This can completely ruin the views from the South Rim that the national park is famous for. You sure won't be bothered by crowds that time of the year, though.

When I was a kid, we took a camping trip to Big Bend in the summer......NEVER AGAIN IN THE SUMMER!!!  We'd ride around in the car during the day just to be able to cool off. At night my mother would get a wet towel to lay over us to cool us off.

Oh! YES... BIG TIME and they deny it! ThePark has somewhere on their website these air filter testers. They show the filter "white" and still "white" after a week or so... all made up.

What it is... Coal is being shipped right across the Mexican border as it is illegal to process it in the USA and I think the by product, I understand electricity then is shipped back.

Photography is impossible during the day, also reason why such gorgeous sunsets and sunrises... yes, smog does provide in combination some beautiful colors!!!

I can personally deal with the Park in the winter as I know the back entrances. In general I avoid National Parks as being DOG unfriendly... Bryce Canyon will not allow dogs even to get out on the view point parking lots because scaring the ravens tourists want to take photos off! Ravens!!!

But if you came and visit us in the winter I can take you spaces where no one goes outside the Park... 1400 miles of dirt roads! Check my Archives for the "swimming hole" for example..

Anyhow... don't forget Big Bend State Park... awesome and incredibely Friendly (Dog also!) people... River Rd to Presidio... hike the Closed Canyon... so much more!

The park had always complained about the poor air quality in the park but it was not really noticeable, but about four days after the Carbón I coal-fired generating plant in Piedras Negras cranked up in about 1999 the whole park was socked in and you could not see Panther Junction from Tornillo Bridge on Hwy. 385 on what should have been a clear day--just eight miles. I had never seen anything remotely to compare with it and it was like that as long as the prevailing winds were from that direction. During the well-publicized air pollution test that was run after the opening of the plant the air was noticeably cleaner and according to the published results the new Mexican plant accounted for a relatively small amount of the total contamination, although reportedly the plant would not allow tracers to be placed in their emissions and they had to form estimates from other means.

I don't know if it is true but I was told by someone at the time that during the testing period the plant was importing high-grade American coal by the train load through the port of Eagle Pass, and that as soon as it was over they went back to using the low-grade Mexican coal from the state of Coahuila that the plant was built to use.

Well, you know Kiamichi, it is all $ politics... I am a long way to do politics... I just see it as such a sad state of affair.... Sadder than sad... Same as so much of the BLM land (Moab) made in to campgrounds because of human waste left behind. Here, Valley of the Gods, the last frontier... it will change also. I had a long conversation with the local Ranger... I am alone now camping in 300,000 acres... could be the last year or so...

Iowa... we have some Friends we might visit... cool people! Western Show on the road they have...

Be well. have to go and torque my wheel, just had a flat!!!

Beemerchef, you are making me feel like I'm in my dentist's office with your recent pictures. He's got similar pics of his motorcycle trip out west several years ago posted in his office.

The pictures are excellent!!

Hello again Ara.  Small world.  We met and visited briefly in March (bearded guy with white Ford truck).  Hope your exploration of Black Gap was worthwhile.

Try August when it tends to rain more frequently.   Indeed, June and July are brutal in the lower elevations.  March is good for spring break except that it is very crowded then.  Take plenty of water.

By new-agey I mean that it sounds like the new-age stuff that was coming out of California in the 1990s. To the new-agers, everything is very spiritual. Having re-read some of it, I think I may have been a bit off - having a dog named Spirit in the narrative sure makes it look like you referring to spiritual things a lot.

That is really interesting for many reasons. I graduated in Litterature in France, gazillions of years ago. Three years ago when I started keeping this Journal, not intended for anyone to read except Friends, I was told to learn English grammar and writing better... I realized that I was still in my mind using the French grammar and dissertation. I did not change, eventually my Friends changed their mind. Maybe it accentuates the spirituality that you read... I don't know. I am very spiritual... but what is spirituality? My own definition is only to develop all senses and become a better person. My Journey is bitter-sweet. It is my therapy from loosing my only child, my buddy, my Friend... at the young age of 26 from Liver Cancer. It has torn me up and even if maybe the luggage is now tucked away, the lid is never locked and these days, this photography, this writing, good or bad no matter... is my key to sanity for the few remaining years I still have with Spirit. You know, when you have lost everything, meaning "everything"... the values throughout Life can change so dramatically. Priorities, senses, outlooks. I don't follow a designated spiritual path, it is only my own, my daily thoughts with my other faithful companion "Mother Nature", a few good and real Friends... what more else can I ask for?

Treehugger... where exactly did we meet? What a small world! Black Gap was a great time, even though I cut it short to come back for the Music at the RV Park... We then rode Old Marathon Rd at night, and even with my seven headlights on I managed to miss a curve!!! Ah! That little tree was waitng for us... had decided to so many years ago!!! All was well...

Be well... and here is another one for the Dentist's office!!!
