Other than the time I spent at Nellis and today, the only time I've seen the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds in person was when each of them were flying the F-4 Phantom (yeah I'm old).

Today I had an interview at the Bell location on Alliance Airport.  I was a hour early so I sat in the car and watched the practice for tomorrows airshow (Bell is at the south end of Alliance airport, right next to the runway). I saw some formation flying of a group composed of an F-22, F-16, and a P-51. Saw a little bit of the Blue Angels as well. I kinda felt sorry for the poor little rich guy in his P-51 as he had to keep it at one stop and his wing mates had to keep theirs at the other stop. The F-16 made mincemeat of the others when they were flying solo routines – the F-16 went up like a rocket, the others were not doing anything close. Made me feel proud of my time at GD developing the F-16 into the world class airplane it is.

We had a summer vacation in Pensacola several years ago and didn't know it was during Fleet Week. We had a fourth floor room at the Hampton Inn mid beach. Our wake up call on a thursday morning was all seven Blue Angles coming in off the ocean in full burner with the smoke on as they pulled straight up in front of our room. They then performed their whole show in front of the Hampton with the beach packed. One of the solo birds make an almost sonic pass in front of us that had to pull UP to clear a fishing pier about 300 yards from the hotel. It was one of the best days of my life.

Oh, I love the Blues!  My stepdad was Flight Surgeon for the Blue Angels for many years, based out of P'cola.  Up until a few years ago a visit to P'cola for the show was always a must.  Wow... great memories, and somewhere on some digital storage device I have pics of my boys at about age 6 sitting in the cockpit.

Practice fly-overs start a few days before the big "show," and we were always on the beach watching and waiting.   My stepdad says when he was serving there, "beach patrol," which is when the Navy helicopters fly the coast daily was a real treat for them.  Lots of girl watching!

I'll never forget one year when we were comfy under umbrellas waiting for them to start.   One of my sons <maybe four at the time> really wanted to be in the water.  But it's not respectful while the Blues are flying so we told him NO!  He pitched a fit and "grandpa" calmed him down by telling him to watch the mermaids walking the shoreline... LOL!

Best flyover I have seen was at TMS several years ago. There was a B-1 bomber that did a flyover at the National Anthem. The call went out to start your engines and shortly after he made a second pass over the track. The pilot made a pass to about half stadium and turned it straight up in it's tail. He kicked in full burner and the sound of the aircraft drowned out all 43 cars as they fired the engines. One of the most awesome things I have ever see.

They stayed on the Tarmac until Show time, 1500, and once they finished and parked they didn't move until well after 1700 when we left (thats 3Pm and 5PM for some of ya'll)

The show today was great and the weather was perfect. The Army Golden Knights opened the show with a 12,500 foot jump. It was interspersed with civilian stunt fliers, a jet powered port-o-potty and school bus, and our military planes. There was a flight with dual P-51 Mustangs, the Heritage Flight with the P-51, F-16 and F-22, separate F-16 and F-22 demos, and of course the Blue Angles closed the show.

Lots of aircraft on static display also; F/A-18, F-16, Osprey, C-130, B-52, F-5, etc. Don't forget the Helos; Chinook, Super Cobra, and civilian helicopters.....Didn't see one F-15, unlike the OP.

I have a new (to me) Nikon DSLR, and I took over 500 shots. I used burst mode often to be sure I got that great picture. I'll go thru them in the morning, edit and post a few of the best ones.

I also took video of the Raptor, and I'll try to post it up.
