KUT News
Fake gun prompts “shelter in place” alert at A&M campus in College Station.
A scare at Texas A&M University this afternoon after a bus driver called police and reported what he thought was a gunman carrying an AK-47-like weapon.
A&M campus police issued an alert and instructed students to "shelter in place". Uncertainty swirled for about an hour, as police searched for the reported 'gunman'. Adding to the concern was a scheduled ribbon cutting involving Fmr. President Bush Sr., his wife and daughter-in-law.
Turns out the student was a member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets carrying a replica weapon.
Texas A&M Police tell KUT News they are investigating, adding that it's not necessarily against the law to carry a replica weapon on campus.
Police are telling people to return to their normal activities
Sometimes the news is an Aggie joke in itself.

That would be a bad thing when it comes to students. Let campus law enforcement officers and administrators have guns in campus facilities but not students.

I disagree. That is the way it is NOW, and colleges are nothing more than free kill zones. Criminals and those who would harm others don't obey the laws. Why disarm a student and make him cower under a desk while some whack job shoots him in the face?
Only those at least 21 can get a CHL; would you disarm them elsewhere too?

You can carry a handgun or rifle on campus now, just not inside of buildings. Tripp and the TSRA want to change Penal Code section 46.03 to allow CHL holders to carry inside of buildings.
That would be a good thing.
Yes and see how many extra people are shot the next time there is a campus shooting. And when the swat team takes out the so called good Samaritan kid with the CHL you are going to wonder why they shot him.. You have the Archie Bunker mentality.. Lets arm everyone so nobody will know who has a gun... Yea. thats the answer....

1. Most college students are not mature enough to have a gun within easy reach 24 hours a day while they are experiencing "growing-up" emotions.
2. Many college students drink to excess.
3. Some college students use other stimulants.
4. College students are at an age when hormones are racing and obscuring rationality. Better a fistfight over a girl than a shootout.
5. College students magnify minor things into matters of life or death and can react disproportionately to events. A prof gives a failing grade to a disturbed student and...
6. All this being said, it would be perfectly fine for SOME students to have guns in their dorms, but there is no way to determine who those students are. A concealed handgun class would not do this. Therefore, it would be better if guns were kept out of dorm rooms.

True but how often does this happen? possible. must be 21 for a permit 5. College students magnify minor things into matters of life or death and can react disproportionately to events. A prof gives a failing grade to a disturbed student and...

Exactly!!! An armed society is a polite society. How many extra people will die because some student with a license pulls his gun during a shootout and shoots someone else with a license who pulled his gun and so on and so on.. The problem is you all look at this through the eyes of KNOWING how many shooters there were because you saw it on the news.. They tell you there was 1 shooter but at the scene YOU DONT KNOW THIS.. you dont know who the good guy is or the bad guy...

How many idiots will walk on to a campus where he now knows he is not the only person with a gun! Right now it is a turkey shoot knowing he is the only one with a gun. The jerk/coward will think twice knowing he might get shot back at. My guess is these shootings willk stop when we get the right to protect ourselves. IMHO
