We will start no thread before its time.  And yes, I meant possessive, not "it is" time, even though it pretty much is time.  Got it ??

Here's the last page of the old thread :

New thread ... YAY!!!

Was going to have ham last night but ended up only needing all the veggies I fixed.  Green beans with bacon and onion, cabbage and a recipe I tried for the first time for scalloped potatoes.  Excellent potato dish - potatoes, skin on sliced thin, two layers - each layer topped with saute'd onions and a white sauce w/sharp cheddar.  Then top the whole thing with more grated cheddar, chives and crumbled bacon.  Major YUM...  Only a little leftover potatoes and cabbage (a good bit of green beans) so will have ham along with it tonight.

I liked the scalloped potatoes WAAAAY better than the messy, fatty hashed brown potato casserole I tried during the holidays.  Never knew I liked them so much - those boxed Betty Crocker scalloped potatoes just don't even come close to comparing.

Here's the basic recipe.  My additions were saute'd onions on top of each layer of potatoes and no paprika - instead, for color and taste, I added cooked, crumbled bacon and chopped chives with more sharp cheddar on top.  Left the skin on the potatoes and they were fine, especially since sliced so thin.

Scalloped Potatoes Recipe #85629
A great potato recipe... so easy and absolutely delicious. The left overs are just as good, maybe even better the next day. This is one of my favorite and most prepared recipes, from my 1971 Florence Junior Welfare League Cookbook.

Just Me said I should post this here.

Here.
I'm so happy!

After 21 years, and maybe 15,000 meals, my builder-installed Whirlpool modular electric grill/cooktop has finally bitten the dust. the burners only heat up with lots of poking and adjusting. I should soon be getting the stove of my dreams!

It's a Jenn-air Designer Series 45" modular cooktop. We're getting two two-burner modules and 2 grill modules + griddle atachment. So it can look like below, or I can replace a two-burner module with another grill, if I need it.

We have not actually bought it yet- (Spouse and I just placed the order for the guy from Lowe's to come out & measure), so if you know of any reason why the two of us should not be joined in holy culinary, speak now, or forever hold your peace!

Whatever I get, it must be electric (no gas out here- not willing to buy tank), 36" or wider and have a downward ventilator. I have beautiful cookware, so I don't want to go for an induction model. My other appliances are all black, so black would be best. I looked at Electrolux, Wolf and Kitchenaid, and I like this the best. You folks may know how much I love to cook from past posts.

What'd ya think?

Looks pretty cool.

I never thought about not having the option of electric vs. gas.  That would be a serious consideration in determining where to live for me ---- I HATE trying to cook with electric !!!

I made scalloped potatoes for several functions in high school.  Wish I could remember where the recipe came from.............

Cool stove-top, Flash!

I grew up cooking with gas - which I know is supposed to be much better than electric.  We now have an electric stove w/ glass top.

That is a very cool cooktop. I'd much rather have gas myself but I'm stuck with electric. I do like my new ceramic top way better than the coil type electric I had before.

Thanks, y'all! I was afraid people would have horror stories about Jenn-air. They have the only stovetops with the features I want that will fit, as far as I can determine.
I set up a date to measure next week. Oh boy!:boing:

I want ham as well, but I may try to make carnitas this weekend.  Not sure though.

Hopefully Hunnybunny will buy some chips whie he is getting the dreaded hot dogs so I can at least have some yummy stuff to help me eat the meal from monotony-ville. ;)
