when it first came out. It was on every station, rock or country every time you punched the button.

It's amazing what 35 years will do to your perspective of a song. wonderful version.

Why will it embed sometime and not work others?

About that time, I was seriously into riding and barrel racing.  I loved it then!  It's still pretty good, kinda schmaltzy, but brings back fond memories.

Lordy...I slow danced to that song with my high school sweetheart at the homecoming band party.

Now, I can hardly wait for that song to be over.

Syrup........

When he sings about the killing frost, and getting lost in the blizzard, I say, "WTF? That makes no meterological sense whatsoever!" and lose interest in the song.

I much prefer this one:

As horse songs go, I prefer Chestnut Mare by the Byrds.

You know, I was just thinking...many horse songs have strange lyrics.

The most glaring example:

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

"There ain't no one FOR TO GIVE YOU no pain"

Huh?!?!?!

I liked that song but never understood it.

I played America's first album until the needle on the turntable bled.

What I remember most about this song was that Epic Records issued a "short" version that did not include the awesome piano intro and long piano solo at the end.  It was the most idiotic edit of a song I've ever heard!  That piano WAS the song!!

Many stations wisely went ahead and played the complete album version as they do today.

Loved the song then as today.

+1. Always liked that song, and still do.

But I think my favorite MMM songs still is his version of Texas Morning.

I suspected that Chesnut Mare wasn't really about catching a Horse, but about "raring up" on a Filly. :git:

All of these horse songs tend to be allegorical.
